A Lifetime of Dedication to Dogs: Becky’s Story
Becky has spent over 40 years dedicated to the care, training, and well-being of dogs.
Her journey began at just seven years old, when she started volunteering at a veterinary clinic in Green Bay. Every Saturday, her parents would drop her off to help care for the dogs—cleaning, feeding, and learning hands-on. Becky continued volunteering throughout her school years and holidays, gradually assuming more technical responsibilities and assisting veterinarians in all aspects of canine care.
After finishing college, Becky commenced work as a Veterinary Assistant at St. Luke's Vet Clinic. She later worked at Epsom Central Vet Clinic, Western Springs After Hours Clinic, and the SPCA as a locum. Her passion for animal care led her to Palmerston North, where she began studying veterinary science while working under renowned vet John Baragwanath. Becky completed her science degree in Auckland in 2000.
Combining her academic background with practical experience, Becky joined a veterinary pharmaceutical company, where she applied her knowledge in both science and animal management.
In 2001, Becky moved to the UK with her husband, a veterinarian. There, she worked with Arnolds Veterinary Health and Medichem International. In 2004, she became AMTRA-qualified—legally certified to prescribe and supply specific veterinary medicines and provide professional animal health advice.
Returning to New Zealand in 2005, Becky briefly worked in companion animal supplies before joining MAF (now MPI) as a K9 Operations Officer. In this role, she trained and handled detector dogs to help protect New Zealand’s biosecurity at the border. In 2006, Becky began raising her family and stepped back from full-time work. While living in the United States in 2011, she worked on a university farm, expanding her skills in animal husbandry while her husband pursued a Master's in Pathology.
The family returned to New Zealand in 2013, and in 2014, Becky’s Dog Walking was born—a business founded on decades of knowledge, compassion, and hands-on experience with dogs.
Vince
Vince has a diverse background in Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, ERP, and commercial legal, with experience managing multiple international business units for large corporations in the human and animal health sectors. He has set up distribution systems worldwide, including those with high compliance requirements, such as controlled drugs, food and vaccines.
Before becoming a director and dog handler with Becky's Dog Walking, Vince was a business mentor and coach, consulting businesses throughout the COVID pandemic and supporting NZTE responses to struggling businesses. In a classic "left corporate life for a lifestyle job" scenario, Vince traded his hundreds of staff to work with hundreds of dogs.
Vince has had dogs all his life, including rescues, and has worked with Becky's Dog Walking for most of the last six years, becoming a director just over two years ago. An avid sportsman, Vince has played rugby and rugby league and represented New Zealand in mountain biking and road cycling.
